Storing a Christmas Tree in 5 Simple Steps

Storing a Christmas Tree in 5 Simple Steps

Unfortunately, the holiday season doesn’t last forever. Once it is over, it is time to put the decorations, lights and Christmas tree into storage to be used next year. If your Christmas tree isn’t stored properly, it may not look or work the same as it once did. We’re here to help! Try out these 5 artificial Christmas tree storage tips.

Artificial Christmas Tree Storage Tips from the Experts

1. Remove all Ornaments and Decorations from the Tree

First, remove all ornaments, tinsel and decorations from the Christmas tree. Carefully place these items back in their storage boxes or containers. If your tree isn’t pre-lit, remove the lights from the Christmas tree as well.

2. Check the Lights

Before putting your tree into storage, check all of the lights. Find the light closest to the end of the light strand and follow the strand carefully checking each light. If you notice any lights are no longer working, replace them with the spares that came with your tree.

3. Take the Tree Apart

Next, it is time to disassemble your tree. Depending on how big your tree is, it is likely broken into 2 to 4 sections. It is important to remember that if the tree is pre-lit, you need to unplug each section as you go. Carefully remove the top of the Christmas tree and work your way down.

4. Carefully Fold the Branches

Once the tree has been taken apart, carefully fold the branches back together. Be careful to avoid any lights or wiring on the tree so it doesn’t get damaged.

5. Store Your Christmas Tree

Finally, place all of the parts of the tree into a Christmas tree storage bag. Avoid using the box the tree came in, as cardboard can disintegrate over time and will not be able to protect your tree from pests or mold growth.
